Understanding what each tier actually represents helps you set meaningful goals and appreciate how far you’ve come.
Recreational (below 60%)
Below 60% doesn’t mean you’re not a real athlete — it means you’re participating in masters athletics and building a foundation.
Developing (60–69%)
The 60–69% range represents a solid club athlete who trains regularly and competes locally.
Competitive club (70–79%)
At 70–79%, you’re a serious masters competitor. You’d be competitive at county and regional championships.
National class (80–89%)
An 80%+ age grade puts you in the top tier of active masters athletes in any country. You’d be competitive at national championships.
World class (90%+)
Above 90% is the elite tier — performances approaching world record level for your age. These athletes are typically competing internationally.
