Anyone who runs in Warth-Schröcken doesn’t just start-it runs up above all. Over 1,500 meters, directly into the alpine luck. Real trail running feeling is waiting between Graten, mountain lakes and rock giants. This is exactly why part of the German team in the mountain and trailla run from June 30th to July 3, 2025 is preparing for the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships 2025 in Spain. Also included: scene sizes such as Ida-Sophie Hegemann (LG Göttingen), Laura Hottenrott (PSV Grün-Weiß Kassel), Lukas Ehrle (LG Brandenkopf), Marc Dürr (TV Hindelang) ….
But not only the professionals take the site around Warth-Schröcken under the soles. Beginners and hobby runners also find their terrain here: varied, well -signposted and in a promising backdrop. In short: In the summer season, the region fully relies on trail running – with highlights and possibilities for every level.
Low with suction effect
Warth and his neighboring village of Schröcken are located on both sides of the Hochtannberg Pass – in the attractive triangle between Allgäu Hauptkamm, Arlberg and Lechquellen Mountains. Sounds remote? Is it too. And that is exactly what makes it appeal. At around 1,500 meters above sea level, which ends with gondola aid elsewhere: real height training. “Trailrunning is not a race against time,” says Trailrunning coach Florian Reiter. “Anyone who runs here does not want to shine (only) – but arrive. In the field. And with yourself.”
In the two Walser villages, the first increase is enough to crack the 2,000 mark-in the rhythm of your own breath, accompanied by clear, pollen-free mountain air and a view of the surrounding mountain landscape. Warth-Schröcken offers the ideal combination of sport, height air and nature. And the best for beginners: With the Steffisalp-Express you can get up to 1,884 meters and make your first trail running experiences in an alpine backdrop. Without any strenuous vertical meter plague.
From relaxed to legendary
Anyone who starts above also wants to make a route. And Warth-Schröcken has more than enough of that. The spectrum ranges from relaxed entry to the alpine long -distance. The eight advertised routes lead over a total of 166 kilometers through open terrain, over rooted paths, past lonely huts and breastfeeding waters. Ideal to loosen your legs – and let your eyes wander. Three light, two medium, three heavy tours – from short runs with 350 meters of alpine to alpine daily stages with over 2,000.
If you want to sniff in, start relaxed from Warth to Bürstegg, let the Steffisalp-Express take the first 370 meters of altitude and enjoy the panorama. If you mean more seriously, take the “big karhorn round” or the “king’s tour”: 43.7 kilometers, 2,179 meters of altitude, once around the Walser mountain villages.
Camps & Community: Just start running
If you prefer to run together than lonely, you will find what you are looking for in Warth-Schröcken. “Trailrunning is simple, honest and a damn good way to rediscover yourself-not only in the legs, but also in the head,” says the trail running coach. From July 17th to 20th, 2025, he brings beginners to course at the “Building Basics” camp – with technology training, materials science and the calming information that walking is expressly allowed.
And if you want to go to the limit: On September 6th, the “Seven Summits Tour” will be on the program. 48 kilometers, more than 4,300 meters of altitude, seven peaks – a real challenge. And the best thing about it: the event serves a good cause. The income goes completely to the aid organization Rokpa, which implement various aid projects in Nepal and Tibet. As a supplement to the established tour, the “Rookie Summits Tour” has been available since 2024 with a shorter route and fewer meters of altitude – perfect for beginners of all ages.
About Warth-Schröcken:
The traditional mountain villages Warth (1,500 meters) and Schröcken (1,270 to 1,500 meters) are in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg and are still strongly shaped by the settlement of the Walser from the Swiss canton of Valais. In summer, holidaymakers between Lechtaler Alpen, Bregenzerwald and Allgäu Alps will find an almost pollen -free mountain sports paradise, including height training effect.
Warth-Schröcken is considered a pioneer in the outdoor area and knows how to optimally use its natural conditions. Whether canyoning or white water swimming in the Lech, one of the last wild rivers in Europe, leaving via ferrata, ziplining or in the adventure park-the “Big 5” from Warth-Schröcken are an adventure for professionals and families. During the alpine summit hiking on more than 14 promising peaks, panorama hunters and experienced hikers can easily advance in Alpine’s terrain.
In contrast, the “most beautiful place in Austria”, the Körbersee, offers relaxation. Due to the altitude, the places and thus the Warth-Schröcken ski area (1,500 to approx. 2,050 meters) were able to develop into an important tourism region on the Arlberg very early. The first pioneers, like the Warther pastor Müller, were already skiing here in the 19th century.
