CAROLINE MARLER
(W70-75) and NMAC Hon.President
Caroline now 74, has been competing since she was 11 and joined British Masters at 35. Before becoming a Masters athlete she competed at English Schools, won the Hampshire pentathlon Champs. regularly, became a PE teacher, ran in the 1976 Olympic Trials at 800m and completed a marathon in 3:36.
As a 400m, 800m runner in her early Masters years up and to age 65 days she won World and European titles at those events with world indoor records along the way and a few British records but from 55 to 70 plus diversified by also winning world Heptathlon, Indoor Pentathlon, high jump and 200m (indoors) titles, relays and European 300m hurdles. Other World and European medals were won at 200m and 300m hurdles and 60m hurdles indoors, as she enjoyed going back the event at which she represented Hampshire as a schoolgirl. More recently as endurance has declined and a partial knee replacement has been performed (in October 2024) thoughts are turning to specialising in Shot and javelin, with a bit of sprinting if possible.
