Katri Niemistö, Finland’s top marathon runner and a proud native of Jyväskylä, warmly invites all Masters athletes to take part in the 2025 European Masters Marathon Championships. Here are her heartfelt words:
“Marathon in Jyväskylä – Love at First Run!
The Finlandia Marathon, which will host this year’s EMAMRC, holds a special place in my heart. It was here that I ran my very first half marathon. From the very start, running — both half and full marathons — felt like love at first run. No other discipline has offered the same powerful mix of emotions: excitement, exhaustion, camaraderie, triumph, and sheer happiness, all at once.
It’s this unique emotional journey that keeps me — and so many others — returning to the start line of the Finlandia Marathon, year after year. That’s why I’m especially proud to welcome all Masters runners to my hometown, Jyväskylä, to take on the ultimate running challenge: the marathon.
They say Finland is the Land of a Thousand Lakes — and during EMAMRC 2025, you’ll understand why. The course winds through breathtaking lakeside scenery and has even been recognized for its natural beauty. But it’s not just scenic — it’s also one of the fastest marathon routes in Finland: fully paved, mostly flat, with only two small hills.
The dedicated Finlandia Marathon crew will be there to support you every step of the way, with well-organized hydration and refreshment stations to keep you fueled and strong.
