Congratulations to both Janice Patterson and Nicole Carlos for being selected as Athletes of the Month (AOTM) for January, 2025!

Janice Patterson, age 60, set the Canadian W60-64 1500m Canadian record in the Golden Bear Open in Edmonton on January 19, 2025 with her time of 5:20.87. This 1500m time would have been ranked second in the world in 2024; also, it age grades to 90.2%, which would translate to a 4:14 time for a peak aged athlete! Janice resides in Calgary and is coached by Alex Ulaszonek.

Nicole Carlosage 51, hurled the 7.26kg ball 15.23m in the Weight Throw on January 10th at the Sanderson Classic in Saskatoon to set a new Canadian W50-54 record by nearly a meter, and just 0.34m meter behind the best W50 throw in the world in all of 2024! Nicole Carlos resides in Kelowna, BC and is self-coached.

Honorable Mention
Johanna Flipsenboth 69 and 70 in January, raced to a new Canadian W70-74 record of 8:34.91 in the 1500m Racewalk at the Alberta Indoor Games in Edmonton on January 25. Earlier, on the 12th of January, she raced in the Open Women’s 10 Kilometres Race Walk, which took place within the USA 35km Race Walk Championships and International Race Walk Invitational meet, held in Santee, California. Johanna placed 3rd against women 40 or more years younger, in a time of 1:02:31, which would have ranked her second W65 in the world in 2024. Johanna lives in Edmonton and is currently self-coached.
