GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Athletes from all over the world are preparing themselves for the next day of the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships on Tuesday and the UF Health sports medicine team are preparing to provide support throughout the event
UF Health is a member of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Medical Network and this year, their services are being utilized at the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships, which is open to participants who are aged 35 years and over.
“it’s amazing to see folks continue to be as active as they can as they get older, but we also have be aware of very different injuries or medical issues that occur. You could have a 35-year-old with a musculoskeletal issue and someone who is significantly older we might be more concerned about they’re not moving as fast, but we might be more concerned about cardiac related issues as an example” said Chief medical officer for World Masters Jason Zaremski.
Held every two years, this is the first time in history that the United States is hosting the eight-day tournament.
Team USA will host a gathering on Tuesday at Athlete Village. most teams have an enclosed party but Team USA is so big they had to expand their space.
