USATF Announces seven 2024 end of year award winners to be honored at USATF Night of Legends – USATF

World athletics masters 5000m champion Francis Kipkoech Bowen won Kenya it’s 2nd gold medal at the ongoing World Athletics Masters Indoor Championship in Alachua County, GainesVille Florida USA, by winning the 3000m,M50 Category in a new Indoor World record.

Bowen who took the lead from the start to the end clocked 8 minutes 36.23 seconds to grab the gold. The silver medal went to American Gregory Mitchell who was timed at 9 minutes 07.85 seconds with the bronze going to Frenchman Santiago De La Fuente Martin.

‘’I was forced to begin with high speed because there were athletes who had set good times during previous rounds and in Masters there’s no pacemaker.There was opposition because there were good runners who had set better times and my body also responded well’’ Bowen said in a post race Interview.

Earlier Ibrahim Makonjo Muyah had clinched a silver medal for Kenya in the 60m dash M 40 category with the gold going to American Antoine Echols.

Muyah was supposed to participate in Wednesday’s 200m but withdraw due to a tendon injury picked in the 60m dash.

Later today,Wednesday, Regina Malai Mulatya will be taking part in the women’s long jump W 45 category.

On Thursday Tomorrow Millicent Ndoro and Elizabeth Muthoka will take part in the sprints.

Shot putter Peter Kamau Mwangi won Kenya’s first gold medal at the games after a throw of 14.79m.

The World athletics Masters indoor championship, the 10th edition of the games which comes to a close on Sunday has attracted 4,000 participants drawn from 80 countries.
